Recommendations & Other Good Words

Brad: All of the devotions for the Men's Devotional Bible are at the publisher. This was a massive project and I really appreciate all of the hard work that you put into it. I appreciate your willingness to push and go above and beyond on all of the devotions. It’s obvious that you have a huge concern for the quality of the content that you work on, and for that I am thankful! My prayer is that God will greatly bless your efforts and use this Bible to draw many men nearer to himself. Thanks for pouring your heart into this project!

Brad: Thanks for all the years of hard work and countless contributions you've made to Group's mission. You're our behind-the-scenes super servant. We appreciate you!

Brad: It’s hard to know when to say thanks to the crew who worked on a book since there are so many deadlines and milestones you could say thank you 15 times and still wonder if you need to say it again.

Anyhow, I wanted to thank you for the way you helped reign in some of my passion and made the book very accessible for a wide range of readers. I have always wanted to create middle ground in theology and I believe you were the key part of making that happen in this book that had the potential to be divisive without your cool guidance. I received a very nice e-mail from a former professor and endorser of the book and I believe you deserve to read his praise since you played a crucial part:

“I appreciated how you walk the line between two theological poles which so often refuse to acknowledge common ground.  I kept expecting you to land on one side or the other, but you never did!  So I think of your efforts theologically as analogous to what people like McCain and Lieberman do in American politics, shoring up the middle and bringing conflicting sides together.  Blessed are the peacemakers!  Of course, this means you’ll likely receive criticism from both sides.  But that’s okay.”

Brad: I'm delighted with how my book turned out. As I read through it again after receiving the bound copy, I remarked to my wife that this really is the book I wanted to write. And I have you largely to thank for that. You're a terrific editor, and just the person maturity- and personality-wise God knew I needed as a partner in this endeavor. So I want to say a giant thank you again from my heart for the personal care and interest you took in helping me craft this book.

Brad: I just finish reading your editing work. You have done us a great service. No, you have done our readers a great service. What a finale in Chapter 12. This is as close to my philosophy of ministry as any piece I have written. And you made it sing.

Brad: Excellent work! You have done everything I would have wanted and more. You identified many issues including the all-important ones of tone and audience. I couldn't have asked for more. Exactly what was needed. You did a masterful job at raising clear and direct issues while maintaining the authors' trust and concern. I especially valued your appeal to compassion and the redemptive element that needs to be upheld all along the way. It's easy to lose this in the middle of the "culture wars," and yet as Christians who know the goodness and grace of God in Christ, how can we fail to communicate this to any and every audience—no matter what the issue, no matter what the danger.

I could go on with all the other editorial matters you handled so well such as the use of sidebars, parallel structure, re-wording questions, calling for evidence where absent, over-generalizations, etc. You modeled for them exactly what you called for.

Thank you ever so much for your timely and skilled work.
